The Villager Magazine |
|   Description:
The Villager Magazines are three independent publications exclusively for the residents of Kingswinford,Wall Heath & Wordsley. Kinver, Stourton & Wollaston and Enville, Bobbington, Claverley, Seisdon, Trysull, Swindon and Himley and their surrounding areas. The magazines are delivered monthly to select areas of of these villages with a total circulation of 9,500 homes with approximately 4,000 in Kingswinford, Wall Heath & Wordsley, 3,000 in Stourton & Wollaston, 2,500 in Enville, Bobbington, Claverley, Seisdon, Trysull, Swindon and Himley.
The magazines are A5 in size, printed in full colour and contain a wide range of advertisements from local businesses as well as regular articles, editorials, restaurant reviews, competitions, puzzles and local events.
The aim of the magazines is to help local businesses grow and to make local residents aware of local businesses and their services available within their surrounding area. Generally people prefer to use the services of a local business but are often unaware that they may have a plumber who lives round the corner or an electrician just down the road.
Many small businesses can’t afford to advertise in larger publications or newspapers but my magazines are very cost effective, the advertising starts from as little as £75 for a 3 month package in full colour with additional discounts available for longer term bookings or multi-issue bookings - see advertising section for more details

Cornwall Life |
|   Description:
Cornwall Life is at present a bi-monthly glossy county publication with a circulation of between 10,000-12,000. From April 2008 we are going monthly – a result of its growing success. The magazine is aimed at the AB’s and top C’s readership who has a disposable income and who enjoys the fine things in life. It is representative of the county and filled with Cornwall-related stories, news and events and is a celebration of the area – we focus on ‘good news’ rather than being too controversial.
It is divided into sections – property, interiors, food and drink, what’s on, arts, gardens, wildlife, people, towns, fashion, health and beauty. Twice a year we have a bridal section in the magazine, as well as a Pub and Inn Guide, Restaurant Guide and Accommodation Guide. There is always room for more story ideas, and sometimes we run issue pieces, or have special educational or retirement features for example.
As Editor of Cornwall Life magazine, my principal role is to oversee and manage the content of it. I have a group of staff writers and photographers that I commission every issue and set deadlines and briefs for them. When the articles arrive, they are edited by me, the proofread by our subeditors before being sent to the design studio. I then work closely with the designer to ensure the best, top quality pictures are used in the most appropriate way.
Our aim is to provide readers with an enjoyable, informative read that reflects the beautiful county they live in. |

Derbyshire Life |
|   Description:
About Derbyshire Life magazine
Established in 1931, Derbyshire Life & Countryside was the first county magazine - so it has a long and proud tradition to uphold. With its rich variety of landscape and heritage Derbyshire is a microcosm of England. The landscape is diverse and beautiful, stretching from dark moorland in the north through gentle central dales and hills to rolling fertile land in the south. It has winding rivers and still reservoirs, great country estates, houses and churches and the relics of past industrial greatness. Its market towns and villages keep alive old traditions and an appreciation of the countryside and farming community, while the county's urban centres acknowledge the thriving businesses and modern technology that bring wealth and prosperity to the region.
Derbyshire Life & Countryside celebrates this uniqueness and diversity. Everyone has a different perspective, whether it's a preference for stunning scenery, interesting places and people, history, buildings, sport, art and culture, social life, fashion and beauty, business and property, local food, gardens and wildlife or just a desire to read informative articles and look at outstanding photographs. Derbyshire Life & Countryside aims to entertain and inform readers - whether they're residents, visitors or homesick ex-pats - and to capture a sense of the place and the people, leaving an awareness of how much there is to safeguard and cherish for the future. |

Country Smallholding |
|   Description:
Country Smallholding is based at Exeter Airport Business Park, near Exeter, and is published by Archant South West, a regional branch of Archant, the largest independently owned publisher in the country.
Archant South West is committed to supporting diversity in the rural community and produces a wide range of newspapers and magazines, including farming titles. It also produces Country Landowner, on behalf of the Country Land and Business Association
Country Smallholding was purchased by Archant Devon in March 2001 and was originally started as a bi-monthly by David and Katie Thear in 1975.
In 1975 the whole climate was one of intensive, chemical farming. Following David's redundancy, they moved with their young family to a smallholding in Essex, and learnt the hard way, how to cultivate the soil organically and to raise animals and poultry humanely. The fact that Katie came from a Welsh smallholding background helped, but it was hard work, with few rewards.
Many people then thought that what they were doing was eccentric, but not John Seymour, the self-sufficiency author, or Lawrence D. Hills, founder of the Henry Doubleday Research Association, the UK's main organic society, or Dr Schumacher, author of 'Small is Beautiful: A Study of Economics as if People mattered'. All were very supportive of the Thear's ideals, and gave their backing to the new magazine that David and Katie started in their spare time.
The magazine was initially called Practical Self Sufficiency, then changed its name to Home Farm. It was immediately successful, providing a focus for the sharing of information and experience that was so desperately needed. It was described by The Daily Telegraph as "the smallholder's bible" - a distinction that it still holds. Many of the original subscribers still take the magazine today. "It's like being part of a big family", is a common remark, a situation that reflects the magazine's ethos.
In 1994, the magazine was relaunched as a monthly publication, carrying colour for the first time, and with an extensive bookstall distribution. Now called Country Smallholding, the magazine still retains its ideals of small-scale living and caring for the environment. As a well-established smallholding and organic magazine, it is essential reading for a network of people all over the world.
Subscribe to Country Smallholding online, by clicking on the SUBSCRIPTIONS button. Alternatively, you can order it at your local newsagent.
• Katie Thear owns Broad Leys Publishing Limited, a small company that specialises in publishing books for smallholders, homesteaders, poultry keepers and organic gardeners. Don't forget to visit her website, at: www.kdthear.btinternet.co.uk |

French Property News |
|   Description:
French Property News - October 2008
Editor Karen Tait lets you know what you'll find in this months issue...
In these credit crunching times, it’s good to know that your holiday home in France can bring in some extra money. This is especially welcome news for those still dreaming of buying a place in France, but concerned about financing it.
Renting out your maison secondaire has long been a popular way of offsetting the costs of owning a French property. Now more and more people are considering longer winter lets as a way to bring in extra rental income and also to ensure their property is occupied year round, countering any security or maintenance problems. For advice on smooth-running winter lets, turn to page 38.
While renting out your property is the obvious money-maker, there are other more creative options open to you. For example, have you thought about making your French home available to film-makers? It could provide the location they’re looking for and provide you with some handy extra cash. Or how about freeing up that unused barn for people looking to store their caravans over winter, or turning spare land into allotments for rent? For more ideas, turn to page 50.
Perhaps the downturn in the UK economy has resulted in you being made redundant. If so, don’t be downhearted. This could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to start a new life in France. In which case, follow the advice on page 76.
If you’re unsure whether you want to invest in a French property right now, why not try before you buy? On page 46 you can read a real-life experience of renting in Picardy.
And if you just can’t wait any longer to own a slice of France, but can’t afford the place of your dreams, why not pool your savings with friends and buy together – find out how some FPN readers fared who did just that on page 54.
In this months magazine you will also find...

Staffordshire County Magazine |
|   Description:
Staffordshire County magazine‘s ethos of promoting the people, places and products of the Creative County has seen sales of the title rise by 470 per cent since it was acquired by Archant Life in the summer of 2006.
The magazine prides itself on beautiful photography, great writing, the best interviewees and coverage of every social event we are invited to. We have recruited a first-rate team of editorial contributors including some of the best in regional journalism and ‘amateurs’ from the WI to the Head Gardener at Shugborough Hall ( home of the Earls of Lichfield) to the RSPB and Wildlife Trust – and the partner of Staffordshire’s richest man who writes a monthly diary on their celebrity exploits.
The aim is to be informative, entertaining, fun and, above all, a champion of our great county.
All this combined with wide exposure at retails outlets and hotels across the county means Staffordshire County is outselling its nearest rival by 2.5 copies to 1 at the big five – Sainsbury, Tesco, One Stop, WHSmith and Forbuoys.
Subscriptions are now up by more than 1,000 per cent.

Suffolk Business |
|   Description:
Amanda Donohoe has quit shopping at Tescos. Not quite the shock headline that once greeted the Hollywood party girl who famously bared all with Oliver Reed for cult film Castaway.
But it is a sign that she has left behind her one-time wild-child existence and embraced something altogether more gentile.
Where cocktails, late nights and a fiercely ambitious attitude once dominated, the star of stage and screen has now found comfort and solace in the sleepy Suffolk countryside.
And while looking for a quieter lifestyle is high on the agenda, she has not retired into a celebrity bubble, preferring instead to be a champion of the county and rural people in particular.
She said: “The local community is so important. If it wasn’t for local people, we would be living in ghost towns. We have to fight for our post offices and other amenities as corporate bodies have no real understanding of how the countryside works.
“Therefore, I have stopped shopping at Tesco as I feel the right thing to do is spread the money around rather than give it to some supermarket that is already quite happy and well off.
“One of the things I love about Suffolk is seeing people grow their own produce on allotments and then sell them outside their homes. Local produce might be a little bit more expensive but I defy any supermarket to sell anything superior or tastier.” To many in Suffolk, hearing a Golden Globe winner speak so highly of the county and the very things that Suffolk prides itself on might be a little surprising.
But Amanda’s love affair with the county is deeply rooted and she is a popular member of the north Suffolk community where she has now bought a home.
She explained: “I used to come to Suffolk when I was at school as my best friend had family living around Bury St Edmunds.
“Then five years ago, I questioned whether I should stay in London with the noise and the stress that comes with living in a big city.
“I was getting a bit long in the tooth, my party days had gone and because there was no need to worry about commuting every day, I had the luxury of choosing to live wherever I wanted.
“I rented a flat in Great Barton for a while and the same very good friend at school now lives in Framlingham so I knew I wanted to buy a property in Suffolk.” While working on ITV series, Murder City, Amanda spent all her spare time on the internet looking for properties and eventually found one in the Eye area.
Amanda’s love of rural life and village pubs are a far cry from her lifestyle just 20 years ago when she starred alongside the legendary Oliver Reed in Castaway and then enjoyed the trappings of the Hollywood lifestyle with a lucrative role in hit series LA Law.
She said: “You couldn’t have a greater contrast. Hollywood is such a transient town where businesses and friends turnover at the rate of knots.
“I got back from the US and realised I had no home and no life – the things normal people take for granted. The last two years I wanted to have a life around my work and it has been fantastic.” Turning her back on Hollywood, and to some degree the London acting scene, her heart well and truly belongs in the county and its countryside in particular.
She explains: “Even when I go down to London for a short time, I feel slightly down as I have to leave Suffolk. I have been lucky enough to travel all over the world and every time I come back I realise that the Suffolk countryside is still the most beautiful place in the world.

The British Association for Shooting & Conservation (BASC): The Custodian |
|   Description:
The organisation started out as the Wildfowlers' Association of Great Britain and Ireland, (WAGBI) in 1908. It was founded by Stanley Duncan, an engineer from Hull, who was also a highly experienced wildfowler and naturalist., In 1981 WAGBI changed its name to the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC). This change was agreed at the Annual General Meeting of that year in recognition of the fact that shooting sports required a single representative body and that WAGBI was the most suitable placed organisation to take on that role. There are currently 127,000 members and that number is growing every year.BASC is a national representative body for sporting shooting. We have five strategic objectives:
* A strong and unified voice for shooting
* All party backing for shooting
* Balanced comment in the media
* Continued opportunity to go shooting
* High standards |

BASC: Shooting & Conservation |
|   Description:
The number of women taking up shooting is growing every year and this is helping to dispel myths about the type of person who participates in the sport.
BASC created a youth section of the organisation called Young Shots to encourage more young people to learn how to shoot safely and to respect guns.
Game shooting is a sport, and game is shot for the pot. Game Food, which is low in fat, tasty and nutritious, is available through the major supermarkets and game dealers in season.
BASC members work year-round to improve their land for shooting and conservation. In 2000 BASC launched Green Shoots, BASC's Biodiversity Action Plan for shooting.
Clay pigeon shooting and target shooting are events that British competitors have excelled in at previous Olympic Games.

Event |
|   Description:
Event magazine has absorbed fellow Haymarket title RSVP and will now serve readers who together spend £8.6 billion each year on live events in the UK.
The redesigned monthly was relaunched yesterday to some of its 16,000 target readers at Haymarket’s London head office.
Paul Twite, publishing director, said: “The entire team has worked to deliver a magazine that takes Event to another level in terms of circulation, editorial and advertising.”
According to Twite, the title’s new editorial strategy seeks to integrate the most successful aspects of RSVP with the strengths of Event.
“The industry briefings that have taken place so far have indicated a genuine level of enthusiasm for our strategy from all sectors,” said Twite.
While the new look Event is set to land on desks on February 5, key industry players were invited to a preview at Haymarket’s offices in London on January 31.
Event’s readership includes corporate marketers and event planners as well as suppliers of event needs including venues, catering, lighting, graphics, sound, security and insurance.
The relaunched title will feature Brand Watch, an in-depth look at how a brand’s events work within its marketing campaign; analysis and information on industry topics from Advice Bureau; and the Venue Files showcase of event spaces by type.
A news section will dedicate pages to breaking stories on agencies, exhibitions, associations, recent appointments and new packages.
Jeremy King is Event’s new editor, replacing Mike Fletcher, former group editor of Event and RSVP magazines, who leaves Haymarket to pursue a freelance career.
King joined Haymarket in 2004 to help launch RSVP in the position of associate editor before being promoted to editor in 2007. |

Catcha Media Group is publishing F1 Racing Singapore under license to Haymarket. The magazine, which incorporates unique local content and advertising space, will have an initial monthly distribution of 20,000 in Singapore and 25,000 in neighbouring Malaysia.
Its launch issue featured an exclusive interview with Finnish Formula One World Champion driver Mika Hakkinen in Singapore, and its cover star was UK-born Honda driver Jenson Button.
Voon Tze Khay, managing director of Catcha, said: “We are very excited and proud to have strengthened our magazine portfolio with the launch of F1 Racing Singapore.
“F1 Racing is the leading motorsport magazine in the world and it fits perfectly with Catcha’s vision of creating a leading South-East Asian media group.”
Catcha also publishes F1 Racing Malaysia, Stuff Malaysia and FourFourTwo Malaysia, all under licence from Haymarket.
“With two editions published across Malaysia and Singapore,” said Voon, “we strongly believe that we now are firm leaders in the motorsport magazine industry.”
The first Singapore Grand Prix will take place on September 28 in the southern Marina Bay area of Singapore’s main island, just to the east of the central business district.
It will be the first night race in Formula One history, meaning that it can be broadcast live at a convenient time for European audiences.
An earlier street race began as the Singapore Grand Prix for Formula Two racing in 1961 only to be renamed the Malaysian Grand Prix in 1962. That race is now defunct and not related to either the new Singapore Grand Prix or the current Malaysian Grand Prix.
F1 Racing recently launched a new look that will be adopted by each of its overseas licensed editions in coming months. |

LG |

LG Electronics wanted to produce a publication that would boost sales of its products in the run-up to World Cup 2006.
The publication was to contain editorial information to engage fans and tell them something they didn’t already know about the tournament while also getting them enthused about the range of LG products.
Haymarket Network then designed a ‘World Cup in Focus’ magazine to give a subtle visual nod to the high-definition televisions featured prominently inside.
The football editorial was split into bite-sized, self-contained chunks giving general fans useful information – players to watch, key clashes and fascinating facts, as well as a match planner for the tournament.
The resulting brochure was inserted into copies of Stuff, FourFourTwo, What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision and What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision Ultimate Guides, and a competition within the publication prompted an excellent response: 8,500 entries were submitted, marking a 2.2 per cent response rate and significant data capture for a delighted LG. |

The Fund Business |
|   Description:
The Fund Business is a new magazine for the international fund management industry launched in February 2007. Designed for senior executives, it is unlike any other magazine in its sector, read by chief executive officers, chief investment officers, chief operations officers and their senior team leaders at large institutions and small boutiques across the UK, Europe, the US and Asia.
The Fund Business is not a chatty, 'put your feet up', light read. It covers the key issues facing the industry and tells leaders why understanding these issues could be critical to the success or failure of their business. You know it, we know it: if it isn't important to the business, the senior executives aren't interested. So we make it relevant. We explain how and why and crucially what they can do about it. We have the design values of a hi-level sophisticated magazine and the editorial values of a cutting-edge business report.
The three core departments of a fund management business - operations, investment and sales - are working more co-operatively than ever before. All senior, ambitious staff need to understand how all the other departments work if they want to progress their own careers. What unites them all is their desire for the success of the business.
We bear this in mind with everything we write. Every page is designed to engage all areas of the business. Our features pull out key learning points that speak specifically to the three departments. And we only tackle the issues and details that have a practical impact on the business. You won't find vague academic debate here, or 'anorak' level technical detail. We write about product development in a way that engages the operations teams and about the latest technology so that it makes real sense and has real value to the CEO.
10 good reasons to read The Fund Business
A new magazine for the fund management industry:
* Business critical analysis for senior decision-makers in global fund management
* Packed with keen insights from the top business leaders in the industry
* Senior journalists and consultants report on a fast evolving market
A fresh approach for global fund management publishing:
* Practical business development case studies
* Interviews with the top executives
* Forward-looking analysis of the major trends
* Business-focused reports on the latest technical and operational developments
A unique platform to reach a key audience:
* Read by senior players in fund management: eg, CEOs, COOs, CIOs
* Global readership of 10,100: 38% UK, 31% Europe ex-UK, 26% US, 5% rest of world
* The intensively researched circulation will be audited and verified by independent industry body BPA in July 2007 |
